Proposed legislation takes pressure off ostomy patients
In a recent WGCU report, AAHomecare's Jay Witter discussed the Access to Medical Supplies Act (H.R. 10787), legislation introduced on October 9 that would exclude ostomy and urological supplies from Medicare's Competitive Bidding Program for five years.
Witter raised concerns about the potential impact of competitive bidding on patient access, questioning whether the proposed changes would provide meaningful benefits to patients. The report also highlights perspectives from ostomy patients who emphasize the importance of individualized products and access to supplies that meet their specific medical needs.
The legislation seeks to protect access to these essential supplies and address concerns about the potential consequences of competitive bidding for patients who depend on them.
