Breastfeeding Coalition
The Breastfeeding Coalition, part of the American Association for Homecare, brings together manufacturers, providers, and industry partners committed to strengthening access to breast pumps and essential breastfeeding supplies. By uniting expertise across the homecare community, the coalition works to remove barriers, advance equitable coverage, and ensure that every mother has the tools she needs to successfully breastfeed.
Our work spans legislative advocacy, payer engagement, policy development, and education—always with the goal of improving the breastfeeding experience for families nationwide.
What We Do
Advocate for Better Coverage and Access
- Engage with commercial insurers, Medicaid programs, and federal agencies to expand coverage for breast pumps, replacement parts, and breastmilk storage bags.
- Push for policy updates that reflect the real needs of breastfeeding families and the providers who support them.
Drive Legislative and Regulatory Change
- Lead coordinated state and federal advocacy efforts to eliminate financial and administrative barriers.
- Mobilize grassroots campaigns to support tax reform, coverage parity, and improved reimbursement policies.
Support Providers Through Education and Resources
- Develop tools, white papers, and guidance to help breast pump providers navigate evolving payer requirements.
- Create consumer?facing resources that empower mothers with clear, accessible information.
Collaborate to Solve Systemic Challenges
- Work directly with payers, state Medicaid programs, and federal agencies to address claims processing issues, outdated policies, and inconsistent coverage standards.
Current priorities of the Council and its work groups include:
- Legislative efforts to exclude breast pumps from state sales tax
- Milk storage bag coverage issues
- Replacement part coding lapses
- Reimbursement challenges
